Wing Chun Kuen Academy — Sifu Andy King

1. Purpose

Wing Chun Kuen Academy — Sifu Andy King has invested significant time, experience and expertise in developing its teaching system, curriculum, educational methodology, Knowledge Vault and digital learning resources.

These materials reflect the teaching, organisation, interpretation and development of Wing Chun Kuen by Sifu Andy King, drawing upon more than three decades of Wing Chun training, practice and teaching experience.

This policy explains the ownership, protection and permitted use of materials created, authored, organised or commissioned for Wing Chun Kuen Academy — Sifu Andy King.

2. Intellectual Property Ownership

Unless otherwise stated, intellectual property created, authored or commissioned specifically for Wing Chun Kuen Academy — Sifu Andy King remains the exclusive property of the Academy and/or Sifu Andy King as applicable.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Teaching and training methodologies developed for the Academy
  • Curriculum structure and syllabus organisation
  • Study Notes
  • Knowledge Items (KIs)
  • Knowledge Vault content and organisation
  • Digital syllabus materials
  • Original written explanations and teaching material
  • Original videos and audiovisual material
  • Original photographs, diagrams, graphics and images
  • Online course content and course structure
  • Training drills and training programmes developed by the Academy
  • Instructor and coaching material
  • Digital learning resources
  • Logos and original branding
  • Original website content
  • Academy application content and educational structures
  • Original databases, classifications and structured collections of Academy learning material, to the extent protected by applicable law

For clarity, this policy does not claim ownership of Wing Chun as a martial art, traditional Wing Chun terminology, historical material in the public domain, or techniques and concepts that originate outside the Academy.

The intellectual property claim relates to the original expression, written material, organisation, curriculum, teaching methodology, selection and arrangement of material, media and other original works developed for Wing Chun Kuen Academy by Sifu Andy King and authorised contributors.

Access to Academy resources does not transfer ownership of any intellectual property.

3. Licence to Students and Course Participants

Authorised students and course participants are granted a limited, personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to access the learning materials made available to them.

For Academy members, access will ordinarily exist while the relevant membership remains active unless otherwise agreed.

For purchasers of individual online courses or other digital products, access will be governed by the terms applicable to that product.

The licence:

  • Is for personal training and study.
  • May not be transferred.
  • May not be sublicensed.
  • Does not confer ownership of the underlying material.
  • May be withdrawn or restricted where these Terms or other Academy policies are breached, subject to applicable consumer law and contractual rights.

4. Authorised Use

Authorised users may use Academy learning resources for their own personal martial arts education and training.

Depending upon their level of access, users may:

  • Read Study Notes and Knowledge Items.
  • View authorised syllabus material.
  • Watch authorised training videos.
  • Participate in authorised online courses.
  • Access their own training and progress records.
  • Use Academy resources for personal study and practice.

Access to one resource, grade, course or membership level does not automatically authorise access to other restricted Academy materials.

5. Unauthorised Use

Without prior written permission from Wing Chun Kuen Academy — Sifu Andy King, users must not:

  • Copy or substantially reproduce protected Academy content.
  • Redistribute Academy learning resources.
  • Upload protected Academy materials to public websites, social-media platforms, file-sharing services or other digital services.
  • Share account or login credentials.
  • Record, screen-record, download or reproduce restricted digital resources except where expressly permitted.
  • Sell, license or commercially exploit Academy material.
  • Use protected Academy material to create competing commercial courses, publications, applications or training products.
  • Present Academy-authored material as their own work.
  • Remove or obscure copyright, authorship or ownership notices.
  • Circumvent or attempt to circumvent access controls.
  • Attempt to access Instructor Only, Master Private or other restricted material without authorisation.

Nothing in this section is intended to restrict rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable law.

6. Knowledge Vault and Knowledge Items

The Academy's Knowledge Vault contains structured teaching knowledge developed and organised for Wing Chun Kuen Academy — Sifu Andy King.

Individual Knowledge Items (KIs) may cover areas including:

  • Principles
  • Theory
  • Forms
  • Form sections
  • Tools and techniques
  • Footwork
  • Coordination
  • Chi-Sao
  • Applications
  • Applied Reality
  • Training drills
  • Training methodologies
  • Supporting educational material

A Knowledge Item exists as a single authoritative source within the Academy's digital learning system and may be referenced from multiple grades, courses, training areas and learning pathways.

Knowledge Items may also contain relationships with other Knowledge Items, supporting videos, student learning material and restricted instructor material.

The original selection, written expression, organisation, classification and relationship structure of the Knowledge Vault form part of the Academy's intellectual property to the extent protected by applicable law.

7. Curriculum and Teaching Methodology

The Academy curriculum represents a structured teaching pathway developed by Sifu Andy King for Wing Chun Kuen Academy.

The Academy recognises that many individual Wing Chun movements, names, forms, principles and training practices have existed within the martial art for generations and are not claimed as the exclusive property of the Academy.

However, the Academy's original:

  • Curriculum structure
  • Grade progression
  • Written explanations
  • Teaching sequences
  • Educational classifications
  • Assessment structures
  • Training methodologies
  • Course organisation
  • Selection and arrangement of learning material
  • Digital presentation of the curriculum

may constitute protected intellectual property.

8. Digital Learning and Online Courses

Academy Study Notes, Knowledge Items, videos and digital resources are designed to support structured martial arts learning.

The Academy may also provide standalone online courses, including courses based around Wing Chun forms and associated training material.

Course enrolment grants access only to the material authorised for that particular course or product.

Course access does not automatically confer Academy membership, grade status, instructor status or access to the wider Academy syllabus.

Digital resources supplement practical training and should be used in accordance with the safety guidance accompanying the relevant material.

9. Instructor and Master Material

Some Academy knowledge is intended solely for authorised instructors, administrators or designated Master-level access.

Instructor Only and Master Private materials may contain teaching methodologies, coaching information, internal Academy material and other restricted content.

Such material is protected through access controls and is confidential.

Students and course participants are not authorised to access, reproduce, distribute or attempt to obtain restricted material.

10. Videos, Images and Supporting Media

Original videos, photographs, diagrams, illustrations and other media produced or commissioned for Wing Chun Kuen Academy — Sifu Andy King remain protected works unless otherwise stated.

The appearance of media within more than one Knowledge Item, course, grade or learning pathway does not create a separate copy or grant additional reproduction rights.

Where third-party media is used, ownership remains with the relevant rights holder and is subject to the applicable licence or permission.

11. Copyright and Attribution

Copyright in original Academy materials remains with Wing Chun Kuen Academy — Sifu Andy King and/or Sifu Andy King as the individual author, unless expressly stated otherwise.

Where material has been created by another identified contributor, copyright ownership will be determined by the applicable agreement or law.

No licence is granted to reproduce, publish or commercially exploit protected Academy materials beyond the expressly authorised personal use described in this policy.

12. Reporting Misuse

If you become aware of Academy material being copied, reproduced, sold, shared or distributed without permission, please notify:

Where appropriate, the Academy may take steps to protect its intellectual property and request removal of unauthorised copies.

13. Policy Updates

This policy may be updated as Wing Chun Kuen Academy — Sifu Andy King develops new curricula, Knowledge Items, courses, learning resources, technologies and digital services.

The latest applicable version will be made available through the Academy website or application.
